DePaul University is known for its Vincentian Values. Part of the university’s Catholic and Vincentian mission is to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly campus for its students, its surrounding neighborhoods and the city of Chicago.
DePaul has already begun projects to create a better greener campus with its convenient and efficient recycling programs, water bottle refill stations and new energy-saving lighting systems.
DePaul is a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Star Challenge and has spent over $6 million in energy related projects. The university’s Carbon Footprint Update report, released June 2016, states new plans that the university has for the future. By the year 2040, DePaul plans to reduce its carbon footprint by 80 percent by implementing new programs and increasing student, staff and faculty participation in recycling programs and in coming up with new ideas to create a “greener” college campus.
